The complex lies at 1052 m above sea level, quite close to the Batak lake, and in close proximity there are biosphere reserves, 69 protected areas, and 15 natural phenomena. The four biosphere reserves are at altitudes, varying between 550 and 2186 m above the sea level: Kupena, Dupkata (the Hole), Beglika and Mantaritsa (an UNESCO site).
